Recap
Mini-Session Worm has arrived, folks. After shamelessly defending the significance of said session for the last month, Worm led his defending “champs” in scoring with 24 points on 50% shooting, hitting some crazy turn around jumpers on bewildered defenders all game. Mike Gersitz did Gersitz things, going 9/12 from the field with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and a big 30 GAPE. Richie was able to find his footing after the first half, finishing with 13/8/4, with also 4 turnovers and only 1 3PM. Despite already having the top seed locked up, The Squatty Pottys made sure they still looked like the top team – even without Cory and Salvati.
The Big Bricks have slowly been looking more like a serious team, much in part because of the improved shooting of Bang Bong Jon Tirado and, to a degree, Eric “Cuz” Carlson. Jon T continued to make a living off of splashing threes, even if half of them were banked in – he had 20 points and had an EFG% of 45%. Lil’ Cuz matched that 45% EFG, with 10 points of his own, adding in two threes, one of which I think was also banked in. Mark Doyle continued his efficient session, going for 14 points and 9 rebounds on 7/15 shooting. Youngling Peyton remembered that he can drive at will 90% of the time, and after a few lackluster performances returned to form with a 25 GAPE and 14 points of his own on 50%, and also led the team in rebounds and assist with 12 and 5, respectively. Also, watching him play defense on Richie in the first half had the Grinders crow all fired up, so we appreciate that. The real let down for the Stone Masons was Josh Lanzot, who has struggled immensely this session. 0 points and 7 turnovers is so unbelievably out of character, and if this team wants to make some noise in the postseason, they will need their facilitating big man to take a big step up.
